The Two Americas

John Edwards was right, there really are two Americas, and days like today make that sad fact stand out in bright, kleig lights.

One America feels grief, and rage about what happened on 9/11. It feels frustration - a sense that we're being held back, being prevented from addressing the threat from Radical Islam.

Not "Islam". Radical Islam, which everyone knows hates us and wants to kill us, not for what we've do9ne, but for who we are. We know this from the Radical Islam's Leadership, from their own words. Osama bin Laden's 1998 fatwa was not the first, not will it be the last, but it was clear.

The other America simply refuses to deal with this. Whether for political or philosophical reasons, this is the America of "ask yourself why they hate you." Unfortunately, this America makes up 90% of the Media, and so "accidentally" publishes stories about how we could track Osama's satellite phone, or how we monitor international financial transfers to terrorists via the SWIFT network.

The scare quotes around accidental are deliberate. There is a sabotage happening here, driven by this America's sense that the first America's desires are not just wrong, or foolish, but illegitimate. You hear this with all the trouble that these people are going to, painting the Tea Party as domestic terrorists.

Meanwhile, actual terrorists are getting away with actual terror, as their actions are explained away and a thousand gossamer strands tie down our response.

I look at this, and feel a grief, and rage, and frustration, this time for my country. I don't know how this will be resolved, but I do know that this vast chasm will close, one way or another.
We are now far into the fifth year, since a policy was initiated, with the avowed object, and confident promise, of putting an end to slavery agitation.

Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has not only, not ceased, but has constantly augmented.

In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed.

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free.

I do not expect the Union to be dissolved -- I do not expect the house to fall -- but I do expect it will cease to be divided.

It will become all one thing or all the other.

-Abraham Lincoln

  1. Try this mental exercise on for size.
Declare the islamic ideology as a quasi-government and treat it like that...a government. Then you should see some action!
How can it not be a government? They are using a religious front to get an ultimate goal...the institutionalization of shari as LAW.
So it stands to reason this organization is really a government cloaked as a religion so as to brainwash the opposition.

  2. It will become all one thing or all the other.

Yes it will, no matter what. That thought fills me with hope at times, and dread at others.

  3. Sorry Borepatch, but there is but ONE islam. The pillars of islam are the same for all islamists. The instructions of the koran are the same for all islamists.
When the rest of the world recognize the above facts, we can perhaps, (if we have the courage) to proceed in a manner to obviate islams goals. Not until.
