Reminds me of the German FG-42 in a vague sort of way. Notice the bit about "point blank" range being 300 yards !!!! And yeah . . . I'd bet full-auto would be a handful. At least the BAR, also chambered for .30-06 soaked up some of the recoil with its more than 20 pound mass.
The Johnson M-1941 was *almost* selected by the USMC as their std infantry rifle but it was a BEAR to field strip and had a lot of little itty-bitty pieces-parts that could easily get lost in the mud/dirt/blood of battle. Only about 40k were built IIRC.
Looks like it would be a handful to shoot, with handheld full auto .30-06.
Ahhh... but those were the days when Men were Men, and Women were glad of it. She wasn't built for granola munching, latte drinking, metrosexuals.... HELL NO. She was built by the generation that kicked Hitler's ass.
That barrel looks very lightweight for a machine gun...
ReplyDeleteI thought Johnsons (at least the 1941s and MGs) were made in Cranston?
ReplyDeleteI'd still love to own one. The Johnson bolt design has been replicated almost verbatim into the AR series.
I looked up the address, there is a Starbucks listed there as well as other offices.
ReplyDeleteBP,

At least I like to think of it that way :)
