"Common sense" gun control

It is said that Gandhi was once asked what he thought of Western Civilization. "That would be very nice," is his reported reply.

So there was another mass shooting in gun-free Great Britain. To those who think that Yet Another Tweak of the gun control laws will prevent this in the future, to those who believe in their heart of hearts that "Common Sense Gun Control" really is possible, I have one question:

Which weighs more, a ton of cocaine, or a ton of Glocks?

I'd like to point out that it's likely that most readers live in a location where illegal drugs can be purchased within a mile or two of their house. Certainly within five or ten miles. Drugs that are smuggled into the country by the ton.

And you think that you can keep guns out of the hands of criminals who want to get one?

So what do you think of "Common Sense gun control"? That would indeed be very nice.

  1. So, if Glocks had been de rigeur at Studio 54, then perhaps we'd be way cooler with having a ton of Glocks being around? I dunno.

  2. "And you think that you can keep guns out of the hands of criminals who want to get one?"

Come now, that would violate their right to pursue their profession.

  3. Been saying the same thing for years. Should Bill Maher ever have the misfortune of meeting me, he will be asked that question, since he love to sneer at the drug laws while supporting gun control.

  4. To answer the questions in your post in a way that will help you understand the mindset you are facing:

    1. Glocks must weigh more, they are made of metal.

    2. Of course we can, and when we do, everyone will be peaceful and love will rule the planet.

  5. But then a ton of 1911's would weigh more than a ton of glocks right? Because there is more metal?

  6. ASM826, I must gently correct your point #1. Glocks are plastic, and therefore weight less. And are also invisible to airport scanners, which is why there's been this rash of airliner hijacking using them.

    Oh, wait ...

  7. Bluesun is correct, Glocks be made with plastic receivers and metal slides, so a ton of Glocks would be a partially plastic ton. Now, a ton of squirt guns, being all plastic...

    Oh, wait.

  8. Pphhhht! Everybody knows that the Glock 7 is made out of porcelain and costs more than you make in a year!

  9. Oh my god. I can hear the unfortunate argument/debate in my head -- and I have to speak out.

A ton of glocks and a ton of cocaine weigh the exact same amount, no matter what.

  10. I really wish we had a special font, perhaps blinking and flashing or maybe rainbow colored, that could denote sarcasm and humor - that would really do a lot to eliminate some unfortunate misunderstandings.

  11. Common sense... isn't.

  12. Coleman,

Of course, a ton is a ton. All of the comments were jokes on the theme.

  13. It's the Evil Black Rifles, not the Glocks, that are the problem! Don't you know that 99.9 percent of assaults on innocent police officers, grandmothers, and Cub Scouts are committed with AR-15s and AK-47s! It's what I see in the movies, so it must be true!!!!11!!eleventy!

  14. Who says either have to be imported?

With the electricity meter bypassed (so they don't cop you through the big electric bill), some UV lights and a hydraponics set up, you could grow your own Glocks anywhere in the world.

That said, P. A. Luty's, and Shepherd & Turpin's SMGs are supposed to be easier for beginners to grow than Glocks
