On the streets of Olongapo, I saw drunken sailors (and Marines) come off the carriers with 3 months pay and 4 days liberty. Since this is a family friendly blog, I won't make Borepatch delete my comment by telling you how that worked out.
And there was "payday borrowing". It usually consisted of $50 now for $100 on payday.
