It's sad, watching The Who

Such great music. It's clear that they're really trying to give a good performance - they're not phoning it in.

They're just not very good anymore.

Sad.

UPDATE 7 February 2010 10:22: Don Surber has the quote of the day:
Can this please be the last rock oldies band to do the Super Bowl? Here is the new test: If Don Surber has heard of them, don’t let them get on stage unless they Lip sync.
Or Borepatch.

  1. Better to listen to the old albums, and remember.

  2. Really!?!? I thought it was the best half time show in quite awhile. In my old age (54) I realize that "live" music is never like an album. I just accept the fact the nuances of a huge stadium will swallow up a ton of the sound. Anywho, in my opinion it was an 8/10.

  3. Oh I know I'm 50, but I felt like I was 19 when I heard that music, and hell they didn't jump around a lot, but I think Roger had a hair implant. Sorry, I loved it!

  4. Ah, Stephany, you only say that because you're so young ...

  5. I enjoyed seeing them over some new age crap, rap, etc. Or even a wardrobe "malfunction!".
But they did seems to be "lacking" a bit of drive.
I think the only "Old timer" band.
    But the songs...oh the songs....

  6. freemadd,

You are so right, it was always about the music. And not just The Who. One of the disturbing trends in recent years has be the licensing of music as backgrounds for commercials.
It's jarring to hear your youth used to sell Buicks.

  7. You guys actually watched that crap? I put on Silverado for the length of the half time. I'd rather watch Kevin Costner shoot Brian Dennehy than listen to a bunch of over the hill 20 years ago musicians rasp their way through their 40 year old hits. Actually, I'd rather be shot BY Kevin Costner than listen to a bunch of over the hill 20 years ago musicians rasp their way through their 40 year old hits.
