You can stop looking for that 38 mm handgun

All those layers of editors and fact checkers, searching and searching:
Police are still searching for the 38 mm handgun used in the shooting.
I think it's over there:

Must the the weapon used in the crime - it's still smoking ...

    Actually, 12 gauge shotgun slugs are 18.5mm. So 38mm is a hair over 1½ gauge...

    Yeah those old punt guns were proably pretty close to 40mmm

    Taking down 30 ducks per shot.
