"I realized the enemy was actually 20 meters from our position. If we didn't assault the hill they were attacking from, they would have taken us out. They couldn't miss with their weapons they were so close."So what do you do? Well, if you're Staff Sgt Lincoln Dockery, you charge the hill and rout 30 enemy:
Staff Sgt. Lincoln V. Dockery said he didn't even see the grenade that sent shrapnel into his right forearm while charging insurgent fighters in Afghanistan's Korengal valley, Nov. 16, 2007.SSgt Dockery was just awarded the Silver Star. Bravo Zulu, Sergeant. Bravo Zulu.
Where on earth do we find men like these?
Charging uphill into an enemy strongpoint, under fire from small arms, grenades, and RPGs, and him a combat engineer, not a rifleman? For that, he only got a Silver Star?
ReplyDeleteyou pretty much have to be an officer to get MOH--unless you die. sucks, but it is what it is.
