403 years ago, by royal decree of King James (the first of England, the Sixth of Scotland, of Jamestown fame to colonials on the left side of The Pond) a new flag made it's debut on ships of His Britannic Majesty's fleet. Combining the old English standard - the Cross of St. George - with the old Scottish standard - the Cross of St. Andrew, this is probably the second oldest national flag still in existence*.
Plus, it's made of awesome:
* The Dannebrog (Danish national flag) is the world's oldest.
