FTC shuts down Fake Antivirus

The FTC has shut down and frozen the assets of a company that had banner ads claiming "Your machine is infected!!!1! Click here for antivirus!!!1!!"

Of course, it was a scam, and there was no antivirus. A million people got duped.

If you want a free online antivirus scan, Trend Micro has a good one called House Call. Recommended, if that's your bag, baby.

    I recommend Trend Micro to all my clients.

    I think they have the best engine of any of the major commercial AV vendors. I just wish their enterprise management tools were better.

    I've had quite good experiences with Trend, and House Call is awesome for casual, home users.
