Europe is screwed

Offered without comment:
Greece on Tuesday reshuffled its military chiefs amid a political crisis that could see a government downfall following a controversial decision to put an EU debt rescue deal to a referendum.

A state security council under Prime Minister George Papandreou replaced the heads of the general staff, the army, navy and airforce, and discharged a dozen army and navy officers, the defence ministry said in a statement.

But don't worry:
A defence ministry source told AFP that the reshuffle was previously scheduled and not linked to political developments.

Well, all right, then.

An article today noted that if government spending was the key to prosperity and ending a recession then the world would be beating a path to Greece's door. Yeah, not so much.

Read your history the colonels took over Greece in the 1960's during a coup....quote from the fount of all knowledge wikipedia..."King Constantine's dismissal of George Papandreou's centrist government in July 1965 prompted a prolonged period of political turbulence which culminated in a coup d'état on 21 April 1967 by the United States-backed Regime of the Colonels. The brutal suppression of the Athens Polytechnic uprising on 17 November 1973 sent shockwaves through the regime, and a counter-coup established Brigadier Dimitrios Ioannidis as dictator. On 20 July 1974, as Turkey invaded the island of Cyprus, the regime collapsed."
This is why they are moving the deckchairs around on the Titanic.
