The Old Guard dies but never surrenders

Paladin (a daily read, and twice on Fridays) emails:
As you've clearly pointed out before, the Dinosaurs roaring their defiance to the change in the wind can just as easily be Republicans, as they can Democrats. The Old Guard sure doesn't want to just walk away.
They sure don't. But there's a Bad Moon Rising for them all.

The Old Guard was Napoleon's toughest unit, the creme of the Imperial Guard. At Waterloo, Napoleon used them in a last, desperate attempt to break Wellington's line. It failed, and the Old Guard was surrounded in the midst of the rout of the French Grand Armee.

Impressed by their bravery, standing their ground when all else fled the field of battle, they were approached with an offer to lay down their arms. They famously replied, "The Guard dies, but never surrenders!"*

Our job is to vote out enough incumbents (from both partys) so that they fear for their jobs. That's what it will take to break them to our will.

The Old Guard dies but never surrenders. OK. Your offer is accepted.

* Yes, he actually said something shorter and more pungent. That'll do, too.

Personally, I'm so pist at them that I'd rather they didn't surrender. All that's going to happen is the newbies will be swallowed by the same cistern we're kicking the others from.

There is currently only one party and its name is Incumbent, all other I's are mere pretenders.

At least the Vicomte de Cambronne's word was better understood than General Anthony McAuliffe's reply to a similar offer.

Roy, I hadn't ever thought of the Cambronne/McAuliffe connection, but you're absolutely right.
