WWII film of U.S.S. Yorktown in action

Not the first Yorktown (CV-5), lost at Midway, but the Essex-class ship of the same name (CV-10) which went into action in 1944.

The action really starts about 15:30 into the film, although the scenes of life aboard the ship are pretty interesting if you've ever taken a kid to the U.S.S. North Carolina ...

Great video and well worth the hour to watch it! Especially if one wants to see the history! Thanks!

The North Carolina is a good stop. The Yorktown, permanently anchored in Charleston, S.C. is better. Groups can stay overnight in the berthing and after the gates close, you have the run of the ship.

Our Scout Troop went there and I thought it was one of the best weekend trips we ever had. I met an elderly guy at the coffee mess Sunday morning and got to hear his story of coming aboard as a young man, and serving to the end of the war. The whole thing is an interactive museum.

This morning, while I had the time, I watched the whole thing. What country are they from? I want to live there.

That was entirely worth the time invested in watching it.
