Some chick says fire men first

Whatever.

Famed skydiving hosting-biz queenpin Kate Craig-Wood has called for IT companies hit by the recession to fire male employees before female ones, as men are - she says - paid more to do the same jobs.

“In the IT industry women earn a massive 23 per cent less than male counterparts, despite being equally capable,” says Craig-Wood. “IT companies should conduct a quick pay audit, then let go those who are on higher wages for the same job. Such actions will also serve to counteract the danger of the boy's club mentality within the sector resulting in women being preferentially targeted for redundancy.”

The Register points out that despite the 23% savings a company could gain by replacing its male system administrators with female ones, women's share of the UK IT market has declined from 21 to 16 percent recently. Personally, I blame George W. Bush.

If I were a business owner and I could cut payroll costs by 23% by only hiring women...

How stupid does one have to be to believe this tripe?

Women (in general) take more sick days, more vacation time, are less willing to work overtime and are, in general, less productive than their male counterparts.

That's why business owners still occasionally hire men despite the (very arguable) charge that they demand higher wages.
